Happy Equinox

Shaking off the ghosts of the past

Spring is finally returning at last

The sun softens the frozen ground

The birds call their familiar sounds

Reminders are everywhere

That everything has a cycle and season

A lesson and a reason

Things that felt like they took so long

That maybe it was all wrong

Finally emerged as a beautiful song

With the message that you are right where you belong

Witch reminds me

“Do not assume that he who seeks to comfort you now, lives untroubled
among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good.  His life
may also have much sadness and difficulty that remains far beyond yours.
Were it otherwise, he would never have been able to find these words.”  Rainer Maria Rilke

A Witch’s work is never done
A Woman’s word is never one
A Witch’s sword is just her tongue
She strikes the chord until we are One

A Woman’s love is like the Sun
Sometimes unseen, but always on
A Woman’s heart will never shun
Even when she’s on the run

Life is a rare and lovely gift
We’re all meant to uplift
Share the light and not the rift
Drop the fight and heal what’s ripped

The end of an error
The start on an era
But every error leads to uplifting
Every mistake, underneath is a gifting

She sips her tea of flowers
And reads the leaves, empowered
A floral, tribal revival
A light and fragrant spiral
Inspiring even her rivals

Be light and sweet
With a little bit of heat
Sip, and then repeat
And never miss a beat

Breathe

Although I wrote this poem in August, it feels appropriate for this week, this season…hang tough, let go, breathe and be kind, to yourself and to others.  Let us walk with grace and courage into this new chapter, and in community as humans, not enemies.

8/15/16 –

How things creep in over time and form a line
Pieces once pure now looking for a cure
Notice the way the dark endures
How resistance holds up against persistence
How constant exposure can lead to a rupture
How the search for contentment can lead to resentment
What takes up residence and pretends as permanent

Looking for closure in this part of the overture
Is there a point in building up to the breaking point?
Is there a part that’s essential in falling apart?

How deep are the wounds?
How dark are the tombs?
How dense are the rooms?

I’ve always been right here
Waiting for the sign to clear
Hoping a word I hear
Will remove every fear

In looking to be complete
I mistakenly compete
And then stumble on my own feet
Overheated in the street

I used to be exclusive and unique
And was always on a winning streak
Maybe I hit the peak
Maybe I let myself go weak
Or maybe it’s just a day in a week

Constantly eliminating can be so delineating
In the land of extremes I rarely know what I mean

Back when I was new and didn’t know what I knew
I want to get back to that place
Where I take care of my face
And mindful of my space
And live with more grace

Where there’s nothing I need
And I’m not always bleeding
Where I’m complete in my breathing

And to close…I share with you a few quotes from Anais Nin, from her journal circa 1940…

quotes – Anais Nin diary 1939-1944

“To say that the artist is not serving humanity is monstrous.  He has been the eyes, ears, voice of humanity; the transcendentalist who x-rayed our true states of being.”

“Man is forbidden to concern himself with anything but the struggle for bread.  If his capacity for dreaming, imagining, inventing, and experimenting is killed in the process, man will become a well-fed robot and die of spiritual malnutrition.  The dream has its function and man cannot live without it.”

“When I see the enormity of the machines in factories, I am not impressed.  It is material.  The human adventure, human receptivity, has to find a way to make one feel power, force, but not by mathematics.  I am not angry, but I seek desperately for the sensitive and human America.  But I feel anger and violence in the air.”

Grow Anyway

I’m trying to be more in-the-moment with sharing new words versus reading a poem 6 months later and then hem-haw-ing about it in my wish-wash-way…but then there’s always the opinions, and maybe questions I’d rather not answer.  I tend to … Continue reading

Poem Combing

I was browsing through some poems, looking for perspective and insight.  Sometimes I feel like my writings can be words for my future self to check back in and be uplifted.   Here’s a few from back then that moved me today.  🙂

3/31/09
I feel the night breeze
Blow through the window across my knees
Calmness finally washes over me
Despite the dirge of thoughts and things
Static and unnecessary

Life is a fraction of time by design
But a priceless attraction to breathe the divine

Can you tell when you drink from the well
The difference in the water
And the clarity it taught her?

The pot holes and pit falls won’t stop you at all

The falling is the calling
The reeling in and peeling again
Layers no longer needed
To cover truths repeated

The heart now heeded
And passion perceived it
Presence received it
So beauty believed it

Life can leave it
To bet love conceived it

3/31/11
I found hope turning on a dime
I saw love side swipe a crime
I heard faith inside the rays of sunshine

Put on the face and pray for your graces
Hope that the day will bring you to that place

Don’t judge nor complain
Just be grateful for the rain

Daylight dissolves
Ritual resolves
Absences absolved

8/24/11
Waves of emotion
Flood my heart like an ocean
With the depth of devotion
The breath of life’s notion
Extra sensory motion
Stirs up the potion

To transform
To be adorned
To adore and never be scorned
Nor to keep a score

Dismantle the battle field
Shake a rattle and feel
The rhythm and the rhyme
Beyond Reason’s cold shield

The night then is stilling
The breath is fulfilling
The earth is tilling
A fruitful spilling

A new language for the ages
Poured over by sages
Released into pages

For delivery by reverie
Quivering hearts
Remembering.

8/20/12
Little tiny tears
Along the path and thorns ensnare
We’re barely aware of the bloodshed we’ve shared
It’s not like we don’t care
Just can’t count every flare that’s singed up another hair

Find some place that’s fair and equal in what they share
Can’t promise it will be there at the moment when you dare
To step into the cool night air to trek your way beyond despair

Can only hope that the bears don’t emerge from their lairs
And that the dawn doesn’t scare
And that you can live for just one prayer:
That love is deep and always near.

2015 dream a new dream

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
2015, dream a new dream.  Move deliberately and with care.
Find what it means to claim new beliefs and sew new seams
Into a tapestry that gleams with the hope of sun beams.

12/30/14

Is it all just talk, or will you walk the walk?
Will these ideas have a follow through?
Will they make a difference if made true?

Or is it just a fleeting thought
A thing that can’t be taught
A light that can’t be caught
A fight that can’t be bought

But who’s keeping score?
It’s not a competition or a war

One day at a time, follow the vine
Detours and distractions sometimes just fine
Take your time because there is no time
But don’t let it tangle up your mind

Hold steady that sunshine
The hope of the innocent
Remember what it meant
The first time you dreamt

Doesn’t matter how it went
For 1000 others in the end
Your story has weight
Don’t let the words wait

It’s never too late
To rewrite your fate
In a state to create
And let that fill your plate

11/23/14 –

I am the graceful and grateful companion of God
Sat Nam, Wahe Guru
Each day I wake is a blessing
I walk in love and gratitude

With each step is forgiveness
With each breath is kindness
With each heartbeat is love

There is no hurry, there is no worry
Living in the now, I can say wow
Nowhere to be, nothing to achieve
Stillness is key and the faith to believe

Let fellow earth walkers do what they must
They follow their own rhythm to trust
Let go without reaction
Let God be in action
Call what you have now satisfaction

02/27/06

Think before you speak
Drink your truth and link
The worlds that always shrink
Swim before you sink

Time is on the brink
Life happens when you blink
Don’t let it go to waste
Savor the taste of grace

Remember the love you face
Expand your positive place
Let go, let go of the race
Don’t lose yourself in the maze

Remember to be amazed
By the caring and the crazed

Seasons and Greetings

‘Tis the season to be greeting, to be merry and bright, in spite of the winter sun in hiding, or health matters fighting.
In gratitude, I share a couple of poems and a few pics to bolster hope and wellness.  Dream a brand new dream for 2015 and listen for what you truly need.

1/12/10

Cannot assume that winter’s bloom
Or lack thereof
Is a sign of doom or shows no love

Sleeping, dreaming flowers
Hold just as much power
As spring and summer blossoms
Full of fragrance to devour

Devote your hearts, become devout
She wrote your part, have no doubt
Divine design is ultimately profound
She hears you shine with brighter sounds

09/10/12

You can focus on the positive
Or dwell on the negative
Your life can be lucrative
Or be lost under a sedative

Consumed by doom and gloom
Or a light house filling the room
How do you choose to live?
What all can you give?

Time to get serious
To see where we’re steering this

Springs Bounty

Flowers after rain are just too good to pass up for photographing.  Of course, those epic, blue-sky days are a good fit for flowers too.  Lots and lots blooming in New Orleans right now, and I’m savoring this time before the big heat sets in.  Although, I’m hoping that little dashes of this spring air continue to make appearances throughout the summer.  The red, starry-eyed flower, I’m not sure of the name, but I just couldn’t decide on one to share, so I shared multiples, and with various a few photo-toaster edits for fun.  Enjoy!

THE ROSE
We’ve chosen the rose
Because the rose called us

To rise from the shell and stand tall amongst the rust
We’ve listened to the message and living in full trust
To do what most may fear
Living from the heart, we must

We followed a path unpaved
With no flashlight, into the cave
We followed how the heart craved
And received what she gave

Leave behind your name
Truth is all you need for this game
Leave behind your pain
For it was never yours to claim

There are no mistakes
Don’t take it for granted
Each day you wake
With a seed you’ve planted

Living this life of love, enchanted
Trusting there will be a safe landing
Water often with your laughter
And breathe deep forever after.
