Monday Morning Quotes

About 20 years ago, I had a little weekly blog (more of an email list at the time), that I called Monday Morning Quotes. The post would consist of a quote plus a poem I wrote. I was reading a lot of books at the time, and journaling as well. I would often put quotes in my journals if they were particularly potent/relevant to me. As I’ve gone through journals to type for this blog, it’s been interesting to look back on what I’ve read and the things that stood out to me (and also how it translated into journal entries). Most of the quotes I read back upon still resonate and have a timeless quality about them.

This particular ‘Monday Morning Quote’, I found printed out in a box of papers I recently sorted through. It seems to be more potent now than ever.

“Truth can only live in the hearts and minds that are free. Dogmatic belief and fanatical adherence to official pronouncements, whether religious or supposedly scientific, have done immeasurable harm throughout history. Keep your own counsel. Study everything that comes to your attention with an open mind. When misconceptions and wrong assumptions are removed, reality shines forth like the sun between the clouds.” Queen of the Sun by E.J. Michael

Let loose the tears that have not yet been cried
And the energies lingering that are locked up inside
Some bones need resetting for the rebirth of what died
The red serpent lies waiting to peel off the old hide

The goddess of the red night swirls and shimmers like a pearl
In the center of the ocean and calls for the deeper emotion
She is testing your devotion to create the sacred potion
To transform what was broken into a magical token

Begin the ancient swim to the shore you knew before
To the time before time, when no one kept score

A connection can be made where truth is conveyed
Where we are closer to safe, and the earth less a slave

And more like a mother, willing to nurture
Take care of each other and build a new culture.
